Abstract
Effective Leadership: It’s what you do, not who you are

What constitutes effective leadership has been the subject of research for almost 100 years and yet so many organisations still don’t get it right. In particular, excessive faith in professional competencies, and misguided beliefs in personality assessment as the silver bullet for selecting and developing effective leaders perpetuate costly myths. The reality is that leadership comes down to simple, common sense behaviours that anyone can enact if they choose to, and which we now need more than ever.
